What to do if all data looks encrypted?
If you see encrypted data, it might be due to a few issues. Follow these steps to resolve them.
1. Toggle Decryption on the Web Page
First, try pressing the “Turn on E2EE” button. This button is used to enable or disable the decryption function directly on the web page.
2. Log Out and Log Back In
If the button doesn’t work, it may be a temporary decryption error, likely caused by your browser losing the decryption key. Simply log out of your account and then log back in. This will force the browser to retrieve the key, which should resolve the issue.
3. If the Encryption Key Was Changed
If you changed your account password, the encryption key on the server also changes. To fix this, you need to:
Uninstall the StaffCounter agent on the target computer.
Reinstall it.
Important: Old data will remain encrypted and will not be decrypted. To avoid this situation in the future, create a backup of your encryption keys from the https://data.staffcounter.net/profile page before you change your password.
4. If it’s a Subsidiary Account
If the issue is occurring only in a subsidiary account within a provided department, you’ll need to transfer the encryption keys. You can do this by exporting the encryption keys from the director’s account and then importing them into the subsidiary account.
